Prepping Your Youth for College and Beyond

Dr. Arend J Poelarends
Anselm House

Going to college is a rite of passage for many of our kids. The kids are excited, the parents are scared.

How do you, as a pastor or youth worker, prepare both students and their parents for this transition? What can you give them so that they can flourish in college, grow and mature in their faith, and develop a sense of vocation that will guide them for the rest of their lives, whether they are at a Christian college or a secular school?

Dr. AJ Polarends will address these questions and provide thoughtful reflection based on years of work in higher education with students and faculty in both the private and public sectors.

Dr. Arend J. Poelarends is the director of the Center for Faith and Learning at Anselm House, a Christian study center serving the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities). He received a Ph.D. in Astrophysics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and an MDiv from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis (MO). Prior to moving to Minnesota, he taught Physics and Astronomy for 11 years at Wheaton College (IL), where he thought deeply about questions at the intersection of Science (cosmology) and the Christian faith.
